Strumming Banjos Were Entertaining at Leaning Farm

Dateline Dayton — Last weekend was a busy one. Although I was supposed to work on our son’s remodeling project on Saturday, I didn’t. He suggested waiting until Wednesday when we would have the entire day.

Pauline and I took advantage of this opening by going out to breakfast and then to our granddaughter Madison’s soccer match. Her team won easily. As soon as we got home, we had to get ready to go to the Learning Tree Farm for an event.

Vintage Farm Fun was a great program, a beautiful Saturday afternoon although rain was in the forecast. The program ran from 3 until 7, but I needed to be there an hour early to help park cars. Pauline and I spent most of the time enjoying the Kettering Banjo Society, and good healthy food from the Harvest Mobile Cuisine, a turkey burger for me and grilled cheese for Pauline.

At 5:45 there was a vintage fashion show, styles from 50 ago when we were teenagers. Throughout the afternoon, you could tour the barns, see newborn animals, visit the Century House and the Education Center. In addition, a silent auction entertained us while the children had crafts and yoga. I purchased a few things in the silent auction.

Since last Sunday was Mother’s Day, I hope all mothers enjoyed themselves.

At the Hennessey house, Pauline was visited by her three sons and granddaughter Madi. Our daughter, who lives in nearby Middletown, stopped by on Friday evening, since she was driving to Wooster Sunday, to pick up her daughter at college. It just doesn’t seem possible that the school year is ending.

Although we tried to fix it so that Pauline wouldn’t have to do any work on Sunday, we missed. Chris and I did what we could to fix a meal, but Mom had to step in to make sure it was done right. After the boys and Madi left, Pauline and I spent the rest of the day planting flowers, from Chris and others.

A good Mother’s Day, but Pauline was disappointed that our daughters-in-laws didn’t come and that Jon didn’t have his girls.

My day off yesterday was spent with Chris working on his bathroom remodel. We accomplished a lot. In Chris’s world, though, all day isn’t just all day. I will work on it again over the weekend because Chris has to work.

Clearing the Air, Removing the Air

Now about Tom Brady. I must put in my two cents on Deflategate.

I do not think the punishment given New England quarterback Tom Brady was severe enough. Brady should be out for at least a year, with no pay. A four-game suspension is just a vacation. His team should forfeit the games. The owner, Robert Kraft, should refund a portion of the ticket price to all the fans in attendance. Where does fine money go? The fans will end up paying, and that is not right!
