Dateline Dayton – To celebrate Pauline’s birthday, which was April 3, and mine, last Monday, we attended Lacomedia Dinner Theatre the other evening. It was a great outing, exceptional food, and the production of “South Pacific” was well done.
We saw a stage production of South Pacific years ago at Memorial Hall back when you were able to enjoy summer stock theatre with the Kenley Players. South Pacific was produced a number of times by John Kenley during the decades he provided Dayton with outstanding theatre.
On Friday evening we were going to nearby Brookville to the Brookville Opry, a program of classic country and bluegrass music, which I enjoy. Pauline, ahem, is becoming a fan. However, since both of us were tired, we opted to stayed home. Pauline had spent hours at the doctor’s office with her brother, who long has been ailing. I do not know why I was tired all day.
We went to breakfast on Saturday at Tanks since we haven’t been there for a long time. Pauline wanted to give it another try. The food is good, and there is plenty of it. But since they installed a new kitchen, food service has been intolerably slow. Things have changed, we found. New staff, and the food was served quickly. Our waitress was pleasant. Hmm.
It was on to our granddaughter Madison’s soccer game. Her team won 5-0. After a grocery stop, I took Pauline home so she could look at flowers with our son Chris before placing an order for his choral group. They are selling flowers as a fundraiser.
I went over to Chris’s home to check on how the painting went and to see if additional work would be required on the walls. Two places need help. But I suggested waiting until the cabinets are installed in case we make any further marks on the walls.
Once back at our place, I cut the grass since it was growing fast with all the rain we have had. Sure wish I could send rain to California.
I also moved plants and did other work around the yard. I still enjoy getting my hands dirty without having the responsibility of a big yard.
wW headed over to the Dayton Casino/Racetrack in the afternoon to watch the Kentucky Derby. It was fun being with a large group, listening to the cheering during the race. Since I understand little about horse racing, I didn’t even place a bet.
We had supper in the restaurant there. Our table overlooked the casino, and we were surprised by the small crowd for a Saturday night. We made time for visiting a slot machine, where we left $10. Four hours later, we were home.
On my birthday last Monday, Pauline took me out for supper, to our favorite chicken place, tasty as usual. A long time since we have gone for chicken, and they have new chairs, new paint, new menus, new prices. Still a bargain, though, for how much you get
Wednesday, my day off, was my regular class breakfast at Buffalo Jack’s over in Covington. Although there were only five classmates and one friend this time, we had fun. Sad to learn that one classmate is in a nursing home, a rare form of Palsy.
After returning home, I went over to Chris’s to tile the floor. I only was able to get seven tile laid, because it takes me a long while to determine the best layout for 18-inch tiles.
We joined my sister Sara and her husband Dave in the evening at a Dayton Dragons baseball game. The Dragons won in 11 innings, a treat for Sara’s and Dave’s first Dragons game.
