Dateline Dayton — Pauline picked up our granddaughter Madison last Friday since she didn’t have school so that she could attend a classmate’s funeral. Many people turned out for this well-liked boy who died of cancer. Madison told us he was always making people laugh, even with the hardship he was enduring.

After the service, they went out for lunch and then back to our place for a nap, followed by a game of Dominoes. We took Madison home on our way to supper and bingo at the Dayton Women’s Club. Met our dining friends, and we enjoyed a great lasagna meal, followed by bingo. None of us won, though.

We started last Saturday with breakfast and then attended Madison’s soccer match, which her team won 10-0. We also visited with her sister Julia.

We attended a home show later at the convention center downtown. Three tiny houses were displayed, and Pauline wanted to see one. Tiny homes are just that. They probably would be great for a lake home. They reminded me of times when the seven of us went on a two-week trip in a 23-foot motor home. The kids fought over who was going to sleep on the floor because there they had their own space. Really it was fun.

While downtown, we toured apartments and condos that were being promoted. We like our condo, though, with green space right outside the back door.

After completing the tour, we ate at The Taste of Miami Valley, held at RiverScape, directly across from the tour. I enjoyed a pulled pork sandwich and Pauline had lobster bisque soup. Dessert was ice cream, after which we headed home for a well- deserved nap.

Sunday found me volunteering at Carillon Park for a big auto show. It’s fun to watch the cars pull in for the Dayton Concours d’Elegance. After my shift, I had time to walk through the park to inspect all of the cars.

Monday evening we attend granddaughter Julia’s soccer match, which her Carroll High School team won 7-0. Julia scored a goal from the 30-yard line. If I might brag, she is a good player.

Tonight we will be at Madison’s soccer match.
