Dateline Dayton — Two months ago I attended a members meeting here of the British Transportation Museum. Since I had already acquired two British National Cash Registers for them, I thought it would be nice it they had a proper display for the registers. I volunteered to get them a display and told them I would provide a sketch at their next meeting.

I took a poor drawing to my friend Dan. He can design and build anything. I asked him to provide a drawing for our next Museum meeting. Boy, did he come up with a design, far beyond what I had envisioned.

Then I asked a loaded question: Would he help me build it, knowing full well he would need to do most of the work. As he usually does, he said yes.

Museum members were thrilled. Two questions remained: Size and how did they want it finished. No problem with the size, 44′ x 24” x 64,” consisting of three shelves. They thought stain would be nice.

A couple weeks ago, we started the project. Dan is a perfectionist, and since we only have one day a week to work on it, the display is not moving along very quickly.

The base is complete, with adjustable feet and a drawer for storage. Since the display is being built of oak plywood, most of Tuesday was spent just putting iron on the trim, on the two end pieces and sanding, which was labor intensive.

I must admit the sides look nice. I look forward seeing them mounted to the base, hopefully next week.

Meanwhile, at Home

This has been sports week for Pauline and me. On a scorching hot Monday, we were at our granddaughter’s soccer game. Worse, the visitors’ side was in the sun. We were armed with hats and sunglasses, which some spectators didn’t have. Granddaughter Julia attends Beavercreek High School. They were playing Carroll, where she played soccer last year. Beavercreek won.

Tuesday, we were back at Carroll, this time to see our other granddaughter Madison, Julia’s sister, who cheers for Carroll, where she is a student. The Carroll boys won easily.

Wednesday night we were to go to Beavercreek to see Julia play again. It was raining, so we passed. We went out to eat instead.

Anniversary Waltz

Today is our 54th wedding anniversary. We are celebrating by going out for breakfast, then driving to Piqua, to attend a meeting with the attorney for Pauline’s brother. I hope we will be able to go to a nice restaurant for dinner tonight.
