Dateline Dayton – Early on a recent Sunday morning, my son Jon and I were on our way to Michigan to move my daughter Darlene and her husband Mike back to Ohio. They will be our neighbors.
My brother Mark loaned us his truck and trailer. Between the two, we managed to move everything.
Our first stop was their storage unit where we divided what we would be take with us from what would go to a friend and what should be targeted for a garage sale.
Their apartment was the next stop while I worried about the exposed items in the back of the truck, protecting them from what looked like imminent rain.
With the help of Darlene’s children,
we had the trailer loaded in no time. That evening I took everyone out for supper.
We spent the night in Niles. By 8 the next morning, we were on the way to their new home in the Dayton suburb of Centerville.
Sure enough, it did rain, so it was a good thing we only put items in the back of the truck that water wouldn’t hurt.
We did very well coming back, even with a stop in Piqua so we could put the license plate sticker on our car that my brother was driving.
Since it was my wife Pauline’s birthday, we also took that opportunity to get her a card.
We got the truck and trailer unloaded pretty efficiently even though we didn’t have all the help we had in Michigan. Jon carried things into the condo as I cleaned them.
Tuesday, I went into work, really to get a little rest. In the evening Pauline and I returned the truck and trailer.
Wednesday was another work day.
Thursday, we spent a lot of the day doing errands, getting items Darlene needed, and then we helped her arrange their new condo. by arranging things for her in the condo.
Friday was another workday.
We spent Saturday running errands.
On Sunday, I took the family out for dinner to celebrate Pauline’s 75th birthday.
In between this running about, we attended an auction where Darlene purchased a bedroom suite. With son Jon’s help, we managed to get the bedroom suite moved.
Every day I am off has been spent at Darlene’s place, getting little projects completed. By now, everything is in order. The only major project is to back-splash in her kitchen. I have that same project in son Chris’s condo.
With all of this happening, I should be able to stay out of trouble this summer!
