Last week I talked about my two computer loves. Today I will talk about my two cell phone loves.
My story began a month ago when I realized my wonderful iPhone 6 no longer was able to provide Waze, my wonderful navigation app, with a GPS signal.
If that wasn’t enough, the iPhone’s wi-fi signal was terrible.
I soon learned that both disabilities were caused by a faulty GPS antenna, deep within the iPhone’s innards. The iPhone antenna can be bought for 10 dollars, but the repair job costs upwards of 200 dollars.
Coincidentally, at the same time I made the realizations about the faulty wi-fi and GPS signals, I received a free android phone from Cricket, my new cell phone provider.
For a month, that android phone sat in a zip-lock bag on a shelf in my computer room. I recall looking at the phone and thinking, “I’d never give up my iPhone for that measly android.”
Then, out of nowhere, my wise wife made a comment: “If you’re so unhappy without your GPS and wi-fi, why don’t you switch to that free phone you got from Cricket?”
Duh. She was right. How come I had not thought of that? It was certainly worth a try.
In fact, I am writing this piece on my measly, but wonderful, android phone. Wonderful because it has great wi-fi and GPS connection. And wonderful because I have all my favorite apps installed.
To my surprise, I am enjoying playing with my new love.
But, lest I hurt her feelings, I must admit that I had a lovely long-term relationship with my iPhone.
Just to let both of you phones know, I may take up with a cousin of my iPhone when she, the iPhone 8, comes this way in October. Unless, that is, she comes with a too-costly price tag.
