Pending formal approval by the School Board at Tuesday evening’s 7 o’clock meeting, the School District’s anxiously awaited Science Building will be placed in a new location.
In June, just before his dismissal, Supt. Josh Arnold announced that the two-story struck would be placed between on the grounds where the Natatorium was being torn down.
That would have put it between the Middle School and Farragut Elementary.
However, at a well-attended workshop last week in the Board Room at the District quarters, the placement was revised.
With a strong turnout of school principals and other interested parties, they reached the following agreement:
The eight-classroom Science Building will be shifted to the west side of the Middle School.
It will stand alongside the lacrosse field, adjacent to Culver City High School.
Interim Supt. Leslie Lockhart said that “it was helpful” having school administrators at the workshop. “We wanted to know what they would like.”
Ms. Lockhart explained that “better access” is the reason for the location change.
“When it was going to be where the Natatorium was, that would have meant we would have had to change our fencing and build an additional building so the campus is still secure.
“By placing the Science Building in the back,” said Ms. Lockhart, “it is within the campus. It is close for Middle School and High School students.”
She said the new placement will allow space for “an additional Science Building that I am sure we will need.”
