For the first 20 years of my computing life, I suffered with viruses that occasionally plagued my PC computers. For the past seven wonderful years, I have enjoyed my iMac desktop computer. I still enjoy it. But now it has a new cousin, and it has to share my time.
I just purchased my very first laptop. I know. Where have I been all these years?
How long will this fascination with my new Asus Chromebook last? There are so many things I can do with my Chromebook.
Many apps are available from the Chrome Web Store. I can dictate my essays using voiceover. I can check my gmail. I can watch YouTube TV and YouTube videos. I have Google Docs for writing letters and editing essays. I can practice my JavaScript codes with my code editor. And, Google Chrome speeds me to the internet.
Why did I buy the laptop? Well, I was told to bring a laptop with me to the Alexa Development Conference I attended yesterday.
So I went on Amazon and searched for an inexpensive, but well-rated laptop.
These features convinced me to buy my Chromebook:
- My Chromebook doesn’t get viruses like PCs do.
- You can drop it from a height of four feet with no harm done.
- You can spill anything on the keyboard, and just wipe it up with a cloth.
- I feel very comfortable letting my young grandchildren play educational games it, and carry it from room to room.
- The price tag of $179, reduced from $199, was excellent, a fraction of
the cost of a Mac laptop.
- I am no longer tied to the Mac in my computer room. I can now sit in bed, or sit outside with my laptop. I am dictating this essay as I sit in front of the TV on my text-to-speech app.
- It boots up or turns on extremely fast. How about four seconds?
- A battery charge gives me 10 hours of use.
- It was highly rated on Amazon, with four stars and 672 reviews.
- I look forward to bringing my indestructible laptop to the beach.
When I took my new Chromebook to my Alexa conference yesterday, I looked around at the men and women with their laptops open around me. I saw many Apple laptops. But my laptop worked well, and I was happy.
I told my Mac desktop computer not to worry about the time I spend with my Chromebook. “After all,” I told her, “you are my mainstay. And I know you will always be exactly where I left you.”
Have you ever had a love affair with two computers?
