Yesterday was the 68th birthday of Mike Reynolds, the School District’s popular assistant superintendent for business services.
He announced in the spring that he would be retiring on Nov. 1.
As the candle flames waved on Mr. Reynolds’s cake, it probably was an appropriate time to identify his successor.
Robert Quinn, the School District’s IT director for the past 18 years, will take over as assistant super for business services on Sept. 1.Mr. Reynolds will stand slightly to the side during the following 60 days and serve as a consultant.
The School Board desired a transition period. Consulting to his almost-old job is a comfortable role for the Irishman.
Consulting for schools was his profession before he joined the Dave LaRose administration five years ago.
When he leaves Culver City, Mr. Reynolds will professionally rejoin his wife in the family consulting business quartered in Temecula.
As for Mr. Quinn, since 1999 he has used his skills and knowledge of 21st century technology to implement high performing technological solutions that allowed for full educational use of technology for 7,000 students and 800 employees.
His passion for looking past the events of today and into the possibilities of tomorrow led him to obtain his Chief Business Official certification from the California Assn. of School Business Officials after successfully completing the School Business Management Program through USC’s Rossier School of Education.
Mr. Quinn is well versed on the inner workings of state and local public school finances, governmental laws, budgets and changes that impact districts at the local level. He understands the Measure CC bond and that the related construction projects are a District priority.
He has immersed himself in every area of that process. He has studied the intricacies of construction management and financing, and he has worked closely with Harris & Associates and Balfour Beatty.
Mr. Quinn is president of the Management Assn. of Culver City Schools. He plays key roles on the management classified negotiation team and the School District Partnership group, helping to improve conditions for employee groups in areas such as wages and work environment.
Mr. Quinn has strong connections to the community.
He has lived in the city for 20 years, is married to a lifelong Culver City resident who graduated from Culver City High School. Both of his children went through District schools. They graduated from Culver High in 2008 and 2011.
Mr. Quinn is regarded as a committed, collaborative, futuristic leader who will work with all school stakeholders to make sure the District is using its spending power to maximize outcomes for a world-class student education.
Mr. Quinn will be presented to the School Board for approval at the Aug. 22 meeting.
