Friday Night Lights return to the Culver City High School campus this evening.
The No. 1-ranked Division II Centaurs take on a very good West Torrance team at 7 o’clock inside the Jerry Chabola Stadium.
“We are excited to get the season going,” said Coach Jahmal Wright.
He has a lot to be excited about — a veteran team that includes some of the best players in Southern California.
“We have an experienced bunch of players,” said Wright.
Quarterback Jonathan Martin, receivers Charles Ross, Alex Smith and running back/receiver Kevin McGuire lead the offense.
On defense the Centaurs rely on linebackers Jordan Armstrong and Cortez Wright.
In the defensive backfield they will be looking for Smith and Ross to make big plays.
“Jonathan is ready to go,” said Wright. “He is running the show. We are expecting him to play at a high level this year.”
Sometimes a No.1 ranking can put too much pressure on a team.
Wright thinks his seasoned team will handle pressure. “It’s a little bit of pressure, but this group is ready for the challenge.”
