What if someone told you that you could literally get off life’s treadmill  and just breathe for a moment, actually for a full 24 hours?

Wouldn’t you jump at the chance?

You might think about your future plans, reflect on your past. Could you imagine that?

Or what if you could just feel very zen-like, appreciating your life-realizing, connecting to a Higher Source, leaving behind your phone and the internet, for just one day.

You start by saying prayers and lighting candles, having a sip of wine, and eating a single piece of bread?

I am describing the magic of Shabbat.

If you are Jewish, you can do this every week because it is your birthright.

On Friday, Oct. 27, all over the world, from Tel Aviv to Los Angeles, wherever Jews live, friends and families will observe and encourage others to experience one unifying Shabbat together.

The Shabbat Project, or Shabbos Project, began as an experiment in South Africa, under the leadership of Rabbi Dr. Warren Goldstein.

In its fifth year, the Shabbat Project is a well-oiled machine with many cogs:

• Thousands of volunteers,
• Hundreds of thousands of participants.

The Shabbat Project has spread all over, wherever there are Jewish communities.

Oct. 27 promises to be a unique experience in creativity and energy.

In Los Angeles, on Oct. 26, the Thursday night before Shabbat, there will be a Challah Bake — just for the ladies — in two locations.

You can experience the joy of baking the special Shabbos bread with hundreds of others. You will get your own loaves to take home, of course

• Adas Torah Synagogue, 9040 W. Pico Blvd., Los Angeles 90035.

Dessert reception at 7 o’clock.
