Dateline Washington – U.S. Rep. Karen Bass (D-Culver City/Los Angeles), zeroing in on her primary commitment as a legislator, rescuing foster youths, spoke out today on Foster Care Month.

She joined her four fellow co-chairs from the Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth and 119 other members of Congress in introducing a resolution recognizing May as National Foster Care Month awhile encouraging Congress to implement policies to improve the lives of children in the foster care system.

The Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth provides a forum for Congress to develop policy recommendations to strengthen the child welfare system and improve the overall well-being of youths and families.

“We are taking actions we hope will make better a system that needs to work for hundreds of thousands of young people,” Ms. Bass said.

“This resolution is part of our important work to improve the foster care system and to provide the best support to the individuals who come out of it.  We will work to find solutions that support foster families and children and help foster youth find permanent loving homes.”

The other co-chairs are Tom Marino (R-PA), Jim McDermott (D-WA), Trent Franks (R-AZ), Diane Black (R-TN) and Jim Langevin (D-R.I.).

During National Foster Care Month, members of the Foster Care Caucus will participate in activities to celebrate foster youth.

Founded in 2011, the bipartisan Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth was created to promote the welfare of all children in foster care and those who have aged out of the system
