This Ain’t the Color Purple

The always colorful liberals of Hollywood are off their drug-recovery meds. Again.

Ecstatic liberal bean-counters threw their diapers in the air last month when Actors’ Equity honored the play “Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812” for its “extraordinary excellence in diversity on Broadway.”

And then reliable liberal racism stepped in.

Since last winter, “The Big Comet” had been prospering at the box office with the well-known Josh Groban in the lead. However, Mr. Groban left the show in early July.

He was replaced by a nondescript black actor, the unfamous Okieriete Onaodowan.

The obvious talent gap sank box office receipts.

“The show was in desperate shape,” said creator Dave Malloy. It “would have closed.”

The star Mandy Patinkin was tapped to accept the lead role.

On cue, liberal blacks and whites were told to break into protest mode.

On social media, where they reside, they said it was fine for an obscure black actor to replace a star white performer.

But it was a revival of slavery thinking and undeniable white supremacy when the producers sought a white actor who is a star to supplant a failed black performer.

Wisely, the innocent Mr. Patinkin withdrew. He did not need to hear racists berate him for having chosen to be born white.

He just as easily could have turned on CNN in his living room any night of the week.
