The Culver City High School baseball team is finding out the old saying is true:

Good pitching will stop good hitting.

After scoring 61 runs in the first nine games, the 6-6 Centaurs have been limited to four in the last three games.

The good news is Culver City is holding opponents to single digits in losing close games.

“When you play all of these good Division I teams in the preseason, sometimes it’s hard to get a win,’ said Coach Rick Prieto.

“Playing good teams is important. Once you get into the playoffs, this is the pitching we will face.”

“Holding good teams to two runs is fine,” he said. “But our Nos. 3, 4 and 5 hitters have to get the job done. Our first two  hitters have to get on base.

“When they do, we have to execute.”

When the Centaurs return from their Easter break on Tuesday,  they will play a home game against St. Monica at 3 o’clock. P

A week from Saturday, on April 9, they go to Chatsworth, a dominant Los Angeles city team.
