Culver City’s finest 10- and 11-year-old baseball players will be in action on Friday afternoon at 5 o’clock against perennial powerhouse West Los Angeles in the Little League District 25 All-Star Tournament opener.
The Culver City All-Stars have been hard at work under the tutelage of Culver City High School and USC graduate, Chip Netzel.
Mr. Netzel, who has successfully guided numerous Culver City all-star teams, has come out of retirement to work with this special group of players.
The All-Stars include four returning three-time all-stars (Andy Perez, Brandon Zeidman, Diego Lopez and Travers Tobis), an additional seven returning all-stars from last season (Jared Bojorquez, Jesse Tanahara, Leo Matsuoka, Oliver Frye, Stephan Thomas, Thomas Chee, and Tommy Peacock) and four first-time all-stars (Devin Hayden, Elijah Adams, Kekoa Check, and Martin Lucero).
In addition to Mr. Netzel, the team is coached by Andrew Thomas, Brandy Peacock, Henry Brandon, Rob Peacock and Scott Zeidman. Past and present members of the Culver City High School varsity baseball and softball teams, including Daniel Hennessey, Michael Netzel, Ava Fairbanks, Jason Zeidman, Mason Mulvihill, Christian De Los Santos, have been instrumental at practices as well.
Following Friday’s opening, the two-week tournament be continues through Saturday, July 11. All games are at North Venice Little League, 3321 Grandview Blvd., Los Angeles, 90066. Admission is free.
