Senior midfielder Elliot Stanger of Culver City High School was chosen the Most Outstanding Player in lacrosse this season in the Ocean League.

Stanger and six Centaur teammates who earned all-league recognition – as selected by coaches – carried Culver City (7-11) to a second-place finish.

The Centaurs gained three Ocean League first-team selections:

Junior attack Peter Pina, senior middie Nick Vu and junior LSM Anthony Overton.

Sophomore attack Cory Lund and senior middie Nolan Roles helped lead El Segundo to the Ocean League championship, and they won separate honors. Roles is the  league’s Most Valuable Player and Lund as Offensive Player of the Year.

The two were among nine El Segundo players named All-Ocean League, including three to the first team: Senior attack John Lang, sophomore middie Daniel Ball and senior goalie Jake Barone. Coach Brooks Roscoe of El Segundo (13-5) was Coach of the Year.

Santa Monica had five honorees, including first-team selections at attack in senior Ian Ferrara and sophomore Parker Furlong and at LSM in sophomore Bradley Hall. Dragons freshman middie Griffin James was named to the second-team, the only freshman recognized on the list of 25 players.

Beverly Hills senior middie Sammy Edwards, who will play at NCAA Division I Loyola next year, also made the first team, as did Downey junior defender Spencer Farina.

Fifteen of the 25 players selected All-Ocean League are underclassmen, which bodes well for the strength of the league going forward.
