Culver City High School’s girls championship basketball team has happy company in the CIF playoffs.
The boys and girls soccer teams, the boys basketball team and the girls water polo team have qualified.
That means the players, coaches, fans, parents, teachers and Athletic Director Tom Salter are doing their jobs.
The girls soccer team, who finished the season with an 15-5-2 overall record and second place in the Ocean League with a record of 7-3 will host their first round game at the Jerry Chabola Stadium. Scott Mair’s team entered the playoffs with a three-game winning streak. They played Burbank High School, 10-4-3 and a third place league record of 9-4-1.
The boys soccer team was 13-9-3 and 6-4 in the Ocean League, good for third place. They travel to El Dorado High in Placentia for a 3 o’clock game this afternoon.
The Centaurs enter the playoffs with a four-game winning streak.
The 16-6 second place Ocean League girls water polo team opened at Lake Elsinore against Temescal Canyon, 15-13 overall and 8-0 in the Sunbelt League.
The boys basketball team played against a very good Los Altos team, 23-3 overall and 8-2 in their league. The Centaurs were 12-14 overall and 3-7 in the Ocean.
Senior guard Lindon Walker, who played so well against Beverly Hills last week hoped the Centaurs can continue to battle until the end. “We have to keep fighting to get a victory,” he said. “As a senior I need to be a leader. When everyone is down you have to try to pick everyone up. I just do whatever I have to do to make my team better.”
