Dateline Dayton — I hope you enjoyed Memorial Day weekend, and remembered those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

After breakfast last Saturday, Pauline and I and drove to our favorite nursery to buy more flowers for Memorial Day, to place on graves. At the nursery, I received a message about a meeting at work, and would I attend. We had no definite plans. So I went to the meeting, which stretched past 3 o’clock. Fatigued, I went home and rested before going to Mass, and then out for supper.

When our son Jon arrived Sunday morning, we drove to a cottage my late brother-in-law, Father Joe, owned. We planned to empty it of his belongings. We came face-to-face with a wooden wardrobe that was supposed to be moved by truck. I felt that it could be taken apart. I didn’t want to incur the cost or hassle of renting a truck.

Pat me on the back. The wardrobe could be broken down, making it easy to move.  We gathered up Joe’s all of his personal belongings.

Once back home, we unloaded Jon’s van,  separated what we wanted to keep from that to be donated or trashed. Large, heavy duty trash bags worked perfectly for the task.

Sunday afternoon we attended a 50th anniversary party just up the street from our home, at the American Legion.

Back home our dog Jake was having a difficult time walking, even falling over.  Took him to the emergency veterinarian, and spent the next four hours at this busy place.

Turns out Jake has an imbalance disorder, which should go away in a week.  Today he is still having a rocky time. Not interested in eating.

Monday, we had planned to go to our hometown of Piqua to attend a mass being held in the cemetery. We didn’t want to be away too long from Jake.  We went to church in Dayton instead, and the mass was followed by a flag ceremony for deceased veterans.

Breakfast was followed by a long nap. We ended the evening, with hamburgers, which I grilled.

We hadn’t had our pizza from Marion’s all  month, so Pauline and I resolved that issue on Tuesday.

We were at the ballpark next day for a Dragons game.

Today we are in Piqua for a meeting with Joe’s attorney.   In the afternoon I will be helping with the audit at our condo’s office and in the evening it’s my stock club meeting.

Starting this month, I’m going on a three day a week work schedule.  We will see how that goes!
