[Editor’s Note: A motion picture historian, Mr. Hawkins, an early voice against mansionization, made the following statement at last evening’s City Council meeting.]
I live in Carlson Park, on Revere Place in Culver City. My wife and I moved there in 1986.
We formerly lived in Palms. Former Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky started giving out apartment house permits in Palms as if they were prizes in crackerjack boxes.
I don’t object to someone building a two- story building on a lot.
I do object to someone putting up a building right up to the curb, cutting down trees and deleting greenery.
Also, I see that people have dug up their lawns and replaced them with cement. This will dramatically raise the temperatures locally if enough people do it.
Finally, I hope that something besides another shopping mall will be built next to The Culver Studios and across from the Culver Hotel.
This is the perfect place to build something to remind people that we are the Heart of Screenland.
