Lugubrious liberals across the length of America have been sinking to their knees today, trying to remember how they were taught to pray before they voted unanimously that there was no God.
Desperate for heavenly attention, the L.L.’s grudgingly have agreed that for today only there can be a God.
A controversial Texas abortion law – stiffening abortion clinic regulations and tightening credentials for abortionists –was to go before the Scalia-less Supreme Court today.
Lug-libs are counting on liquid- thinking Justice Anthony Kennedy to leave the dark side, walk into left-wing sunshine and vote with the four lefty justices later this spring to murder the Texas law.
Since the Thank-Goodness anti-abortion law was passed three years ago, the number of Kill Da Baby clinics in sprawling Texas has shrunk from 45 to 10.
Girls and ladies who covet the option of killing their babies, have been protesting mercilessly since Sunday. “If we want to kill our babies, we should not be forced to drive for three to five hours to find an abortion clinic,” cried one outraged almost-mama.
USA Today reported this morning that the Texas law is a darned shame for the only gender that can become pregnant.
Here is why:
In Texas, the widest state in the union, the newspaper said there are 5.4 million non-males “of reproductive age,” without specifying whether the counting starts at age 10, 12 or later.
Just think: If all 5.4 million decided to have an abortion at the 10 surviving Texas clinics, some probably would have to stand in line.
In most countries, access to contraceptives and abortions are considered to be an universal right.
It seems apt that on International Women’s day, I have to interrupt my busy schedule, transport myself back to 1958 and gently inform you that women have the right to abortions. It’s the law. It’s there to reduce the incidence of unsafe abortion which is an urgent public health imperative. Safe abortion services protect women’s right to health. And allow them to make real choices about their future. The more this country restricts this right, the more women will seek unsafe abortions. Do the math.
Alternatively you could grab your placard, get off your ass and start campaigning for universal healthcare, family benefits and childcare. Oh and an end to gender bias. Until then, we get to chose when and how we become mothers. Not you.
I find myself in the weird and strange position of agreeing with Polly Beale. I totally agree with her final statement: “Until then, we get to chose when and how we become mothers. Not you.”
My work here is done.
