Spanning all ages, hypnotherapy is exceptionally helpful to children. Parents bring their children for ADD, ADHD, insomnia, panic and anxiety, low self- esteem and depression.
In every case, the child was on medicine and parents were seeking drug-free methods because of negative side effects such as inability to concentrate, headaches, nausea, constipation, nervousness and depression.
Hypnosis is created in one of two ways. First, it provides a lot of information quickly, overloading the conscious mind which folds in on itself. This leaves the subconscious open to hypnotic intervention.
Second is point of fascination. Staring at a fixed point, eyes tend to defocus, turning toward the bridge or the tip of the nose. The room around the object begins to go out of focus. By closing his eyes, a person is hypnotized.
Children, like sponges, absorb all they see and hear. Everything is stored within their subconscious. The fun is that the child still is open to suggestions and easy to hypnotize.
Once at a party I hypnotized a cute 7-year-old. I told her to walk to the far side of a swimming pool, being careful to avoid it. On the other side, she would stop, realize she wanted to tell me something and run back to me.
‘What Do You Want?’
Noticing I was in conversation, she would tug my hand insistently, saying “I have something to tell you.” She was to keep doing this until I said, “What do you want?” At that point she would forget what she was going to say. It worked. Everyone laughed, including the child.
Another time I hypnotized an 8-year-old boy to not see or hear his mother who was standing in front of him.
Once I had a 12-year-old forget the number five. Imagine his concern when I asked him to count to 10 with his fingers. He always had one finger left. He accepted this confusion with grace. I gave him the number five back before I dehypnotized him.
When children have serious issues, hypnosis also is helpful.
A12-year-old girl, large for her age, was bullied so savagely by classmates she considered suicide, even cutting herself regularly.
Within weeks, hypnosis had turned her around. No longer depressed, she regained her self-esteem and her grades dramatically improved.
A 10-year-old client had no friends at school and had trouble controlling his temper. Once we figured out why, hypnosis swiftly resolved his issue. Focused and friendly, today he is a straight “A” student.
In addition to hypnosis, I recommend a child take up the martial arts because it brings two benefits:
- It shows a person how to defend himself while demonstrating the arts only are for defense not attack.
- The martial arts show a child it is all right to walk away when you know you can physically put down any opposition. Far from being cowardly, walking away protects the protagonist from being harmed.
