The future of Amazon deliveries? Image: Amazon

While I was checking my orders on Amazon.com last night, I noticed an ad for something I hadn’t seen before. It was called PrimeNOW. After reading about the new service for Amazon Prime members, I decided that’s for me.

I installed the app on my iPhone. When I was up at 3:30 in the morning, I searched for things to buy on the new service. PrimeNOW delivers items free in two hours (with a $20 minimum) or, if you want it in one hour it will cost you $7.99.

I found exactly what I was looking for to make today’s lunch with our leftover chicken, broccoli, and rice. It was Soy Yay teriyaki sauce. Along with that, I ordered some earplugs so I don’t have to hear the motor of my pool heater in the early morning, and a box of battery-operated candles.

The PrimeNOW app told me that I would receive my delivery between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. At 8:40, I received a text that the driver, whose name was Tan, was on his way.  After clicking on the tracking link I could see Tan’s GPS signal on a map. When he was only five minutes from my house, I went outside to meet him.

When he drove up, he thanked me for the tip that I had included with my order and handed me my bag of goodies. I’m glad he arrived before 9 because I had time for a swim before heading over to Costco.

How often will I use PrimeNOW? I will use it as often as I can, as long as the items that I want are available, and I can meet the $20 minimum.

After waiting two days for Amazon Prime with free shipping, and one day for Amazon Prime Same-Day Shipping, with a $35 minimum, I wonder what will be next after PrimeNOW?  Maybe something called

.  Push a button to order your goods. Minutes later the doorbell rings.  The items have been delivered by drone to your door.

By the way, the teriyaki sauce was great with the chicken, broccoli, and rice. Getting up at night and having an idea for waxing creative the next morning or afternoon sounds exciting to me.  I look forward to my next two-hour delivery adventure.
