Don’t Resist Change

My internet was extremely slow, often unresponsive the other day. Not only do I have Time Warner cable for the internet but also Verizon. Two internet providers seems excessive. Verizon does not give me anywhere close to the download speed I want, but, Time Warner cable does.

I maintain Verizon as part of my phone bundle because I do not want to lose my Verizon email address. When Time Warner becomes unusable, Verizon steps in.

This time, the slowdown had me thinking of how quickly we become used to things. We do not like change. It forces us to think and to do things differently, to alter our routines.

How much of what you do on a daily basis is routine, which enables us to take each day as we want it to be. We change ourselves to include things that we do not do frequently.

Ask yourself, How many cars do I remember from my drive to or from work? You do not remember a single one unless it was an emergency vehicle or a car you are planning to buy. Have you noticed that when there is a car you are thinking about buying, suddenly you see them everywhere?

We actually have 65,000 thoughts per day. Usually they are the same. This process chips away at our subconscious.  When you are presented with a situation that requires change, you may find yourself resisting the change.

Change causes us to think differently..

To help transition to change is to remember that you are going to be as used to the new processes as you used to be with the old ones.

We have trained our subconscious to give us the responses that we have taught it to give us. Only 10 percent of the brainpower we use is our conscious minds, 90 percent our subconscious. Ten percent is going to have quite a battle to change the 90 percent. You can create a change consciously but it usually takes 21 days or times of repetition to create a new habit.

To consciously develop a new habit, make the change and watch each time you are faced with this new challenge. Be patient.  Eventually you may even find yourself wondering why you did not make the changes sooner.

Rather than allowing yourself to resist change, try to incorporate small alterations each day. Change is not as bad as you thought. You are exercising your brain on a continual basis.
