Several clients recently have asked me to help them with stage fright and nervousness at auditions. I have been helping actors for years. All of them have several things in common.

They see themselves as nervous and unsettled at an audition. This happens because they are continually rerunning their nervousness at an audition. They carry that forward. Diet and low protein strong contributing factors.

Harley riders call this “See it and hit it.” As you are riding along, you may see an obstruction in the road. You must go around it. As you focus on avoiding, you end up hitting it.

We all make the same error on a daily basis — a tendency to think about what we do not want to happen. Then it happens. Why? Whatever you ask your mind to give you, it gives.

Try this exercise. Imagine you are in a bank, you approach the teller and ask to withdraw a bad memory. Wait until a bad memory arrives. Walk away from the imaginary teller. Return later to the teller and ask to withdraw good memories.

This illustrates that whatever you ask your mind to give you, it will.

Should the Harley riders have seen themselves avoiding the obstruction they would have avoided it. Should the actors have seen themselves as confident, they would have been.

Diet is another aspect. Too many clients who suffer from anxiety and or panic do not eat enough protein. This results in constant anxiety that magnifies under the stress of an audition.

When the brain is not receiving the sugar it needs, it scans the body for sugar. Coming up empty creates a fear. This leads to an adrenaline rush that breaks down to sugar, feeding the brain what it needs. Within 30 to 45 minutes the anxiety returns and the brain repeats the process. Couple this with trying to audition and you have disaster.

Eating protein will avoid this scene. Consume protein on a regular basis, small amounts every 2 to 2½ hours. This stabilizes the blood sugar levels. Anxiety eases.

Add hypnotic desensitization and a change in visualization to this equation, and success will be yours.

Every client told me the program outlined really worked. Their careers were taking off.

One actor gained a great role on a lark. On vacation, he attended an audition for fun. Several months later he came to see me because he was nervous at auditions. A simple mindset change brought him success because he needed to get work to pay bills.

Once he stabilized his blood sugar levels and underwent hypnosis where he imagined himself relaxed at his auditions, he turned around 180 degrees. Now he loves showing his talents at auditions.

Remember to consume plenty of protein.
