Dentists Are Smart. They Know the Drill

Driving to my dentist today for teeth cleaning I thought about people who are deadly afraid of dentists and their drills.

The actual visit scares some. Drilling terrifies some, and for others it is pain.

Aware of the pain factor, dentists will seek to ensure patients do not feel anything. you feel nothing. (As an aside, dentists have one of the highest suicide rate for professionals.)

If a patient has preconceived notions, these alone cause fright.

Relaxing, of course, is best for a patient. Pain, unfailingly, worsens when a person becomes tense.

Hypnosis is helpful here.

For a couple of days before the dentist, consume ample protein in small amounts every two hours.

This will show you are functioning from your higher thinking levels, not your emotional self.

Letting go of anticipatory anxiety should dramatically improve your outlook. Emotions create more issues than logic and reason.

Besides good nutrition, realize that fear of dentists  is learned over time, enhanced by negative stories you have heard or experienced.

You alone are programming your reaction to the dentist.

Hypnosis helps your subconscious let go of negative images and to create positive, relaxed images of dental visits.

Your subconscious does not know what is bad or good, false or real, wrong or right. Your conscious mind decides. Hypnosis produces positive images. The subconscious takes them in and you respond.

Tips for your next visit:

  • Know the layout and location of the dental office.
  • Arrive early. Do not rush.
  • Get to know the staff.
  • Advise the dentist you are nervous.
  • Relax your body, especially your neck and shoulders.
  • Take music that helps you relax. Listen to it while the dentist works.
  • See a hypnotist to become desensitized for your next visit.

Realizing that the dentist is trying to help plus hypnotic intervention will make the net visit purely pleasant.
