City Council candidate Daniel Lee today announced that he has been endorsed by Democracy For America, a political action committee known for supporting progressive candidates locally and nationally.

Founded by former presidential candidate Howard Dean, Democracy For America is distinct because it is a member-driven organization.

“Every endorsement and issue campaign we run is inspired and informed by the knowledge of our on-the-ground, grassroots members,” the group boasts.

Mr. Lee, nationally known as a social justice activist and speaker, joins an impressive list of candidates that Democracy for America has endorsed this year:

From Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders to U.S. Senate candidates Kamala Harris of California, Tammy Duckworth of Wisconsin and Allen Grayson of Florida to more local candidates like New York state Congressional contender Zephyr Teachout and Michael Tubbs, running for mayor of Stockton

Democracy for America National Chair had this to say about Mr. Lee:

“Daniel is a proven leader who has a demonstrated commitment to working for a just, sustainable world for all. His wide experience, education and resourcefulness would be an envy- worthy asset of local government.”

Mr. Lee previously had received Democracy For America scholarships to the Rebuild the Dream conference in October 2011 and Netroots Nation.

“We are particularly proud of this endorsement,” said Mr. Lee. “It comes from passionate DFA members from around the country who steadfastly support candidates with high values and standards. This endorsement also comes as a result of the support of local DFA members in Culver City and the greater Los Angeles area.”
