C’mon Down, Ridley-Thomas Tells Syria’s Bad Guys

Liberals love wallowing in nonexistent victimhood. When they support a meaningless policy for amorphous, wildly exaggerated victim counts, it makes them feel as if they have improved mankind.

County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas is disposed to deliver such crosseyed rants as a matter of career-long habit.

He talked nonsense yesterday at the Board of Supes meeting regarding Syrian refugees, and when he climbed into a car later, with his driver, his supposedly courageous – but uninformed — stance  made him feel shiveringly good. About himself, naturally.

This is the traditional Democrat method of operation. You don’t actually have to aid anyone – God forbid not anyone in genuine need. The daily goal is to hug yourself, to be seen as one who helps the (politically) needy.

Mr. Ridley-Thomas was in his favorite position on earth yesterday, the spotlight.

Along with the dopiest girl in a dress this side of Barbara Boxer, the regrettable rookie Supe Sheila Kuehl, Mr. Ridley-Thomas, holding his face on straight with both hands, proposed a “message of support,” as the Los Angeles Times noted, for Syrian refugees. They should be welcomed by us because that is what America does. In case Mr. Ridley Thomas was on holiday the last two or three decades, Muslim terrorists are flooding the country. Especially now they are sneaking through the porous holes in the ever unreliable vetting process.

He must regard Sam Bernardino as an outlier.

Fling open the gates, the naïve supervisor suggested. Sounding like Santa Claus, Mr. Ridley-Thomas said that we – the cartoonish Obama administration — can figure out who is bad, who is good, who is naughty or nice. He always did have a sense of humor. Except, pathetically, he was not kidding.

Unsurprisingly, on a split vote, Mr. Ridley-Thomas’s feel-good thinking was endorsed by the Supes’ liberal majority.

Ludicrously, Mr. Ridley-Thomas stamped himself as the long grownup in America who believes the failed vetting process “is thorough, smart and effective.”

Obviously, Mr. Ridley-Thomas is swallowing the Democrat talking points on refugees, diversity, gun control and bigotry without even a cursory glance.

The wise supervisor says if you don’t want a Muslim terrorist living next door, you are a bigot.

Spinning fantasy as he groveled for applause, Mr. Ridley-Thomas said:

“We simply choose to push back on every vestige of bigotry that threatens the best of what it means to celebrate democracy. We should not tolerate racial antagonism, prejudice or bias in any shape, form or fashion in our own space.”

He needs a copy of the Constitution for his birthday. Or do liberals celebrate birthdays? They may be too American, insufficiently diverse.

Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, who proposed the message of support for the refugees along with Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, said the vetting process before they are allowed into the United States is “thorough, smart and effective.”

Ridley-Thomas pointed to the diversity of Los Angeles County and its workforce, including many people who come from refugee families.

“We simply choose to push back on every vestige of bigotry that threatens the best of what it means to celebrate democracy,” he said. “We should not tolerate racial antagonism, prejudice or bias in any shape, form or fashion in our own space.”
