Dateline Dayton – At last Thursday’s meeting of the Carriage Trace Stock Club, it was necessary to authorize the sale of stock because a few members had withdrawn. Instead of going with stocks that were losing value, the club chose stocks paying dividends, selling a small portion,
With stocks, you never know. Like our simple IRA plan at work. When the company puts in its matching portion, the market goes down, as it did yesterday. That is how the stock market is. Fortunately, it does recover.
On Friday evening Pauline and I drove to Springfield, the Clark State Performing Arts Center, for a concert by Wyatt McCubbin. A 20-year-old country singer/songwriter, you will think you are listening to a man twice his age. After soaking in the bright lights of Nashville and learning from the industry’s finest songwriters, he is on the way to stardom. My prediction: You will be hearing much from him. Listen for Duck Tape and Jesus.
An entertainment weekend for us. Saturday night we attended a Dare to Defy Productions’ version of the Great American Trailer Park Musical. Dare To Defy Productions is Dayton’s newest professional theatre company, showcasing local talent while creating incredible productions. Dare to Defy is what happens when a few Dayton locals — with passion, patience and a theatre company dream — come together.
May I See Your License, Sir?
You must tire, dear reader, of hearing me harp about the need for licensing prospective parents before they can have children. Something must be done! In Dayton, a two-year-old was shot and killed. The shooting wasn’t accidental. Another small child was shot, but is recovering.
The easiest time for raising children is when they are young. It grows so much more difficult and expensive as they age.
Conduct in professional sports is my other soapbox issue. After last Saturday’s Cincinnati Bengals’ playoff game, I was reminded pro athletes are mentally challenged. If they aren’t running dog fights, beating their wife/girlfriend or doing drugs, they are making stupid plays. Because Bengal players committed penalties out of ignorance in the final two minutes, Pittsburgh was gifted with 30 bonus yards, allowing them to kick a winning field goal. Football is not alone. Athletes in all other sports behave ignorantly.
Pro athletes are supposed to be role models. Yeah.
Regarding the Bengals game, did the guilty Cincinnati players want their team to lose? Maybe the Bengals should hire crooked Pete Rose to investigate.
