Dateline Dayton – On Christmas Eve, our daughter Darlene and her family, minus Heather, joined our granddaughters, Julia and Madison, Pauline and me to drive to our son Bill’s home in Cincinnati. Bill fixed such a delicious lunch that even his wife Julie complimented him.

We exchanged gifts with his family because they were be unable come to our home the next day. That was when we would be celebrating. Since we had to have the girls back by 3 o’clock, we did not spend much time with them. In addition, Darlene’s family had to be back home, too.

A Time for Sadness

At work today, we learned of the death of one of our CUC employee’s mother, which made for another sad day for the work family.

On Christmas Day, we went to church early before returning home to prepare breakfast for Darlene’s family, son Jon and his two girls. Again time was short because Jon had to have the girls back by 2 o’clock. He did not make it.

After everyone left, I took the dog for a walk. We visited Pauline’s ailing brother and son Chris came over after work.

On the day after Christmas, I ran errands, while Pauline was home getting things ready for our Christmas celebration in the late afternoon.

At our white elephant exchange, which saw one unappealing gift being passed from one person to another, no one was interested in what I received, a toilet dart board, consisting of a board and velcro balls on a string.

We went to church and early on Sunday so Darlene’s family could get on the road back to Michigan immediately after breakfast.

Round Two of Sadness

Yesterday was amother difficult day for the CUC family, the funeral for our founder and president Jack Sowder. Jack was special. That was evident from the comments made by participants at the service. Past employees attended as well as clients, friends, and many church members, where he was chairman of the finance committee.

Jack will be missed, especially by me, but he has trained his son well.

A happy, healthy, prosperous New Year.
