Dateline Dayton — As I mentioned two weeks ago, Pauline and I were on vacation last week. We were able to get a direct Sunday flight to Las Vegas from Cincinnati, and we arrived in Vegas that evening. Since our son lives in Cincinnati, he took us to the airport, after enjoying a meal with his family at one of their favorite establishments.
Our first stop in Las Vegas was renting a car. Always a hassle, this time was no exception. First there was the line. Then associates appear to take a break after serving two customers. Second, they did not have my reservation, which they claimed I didn’t confirm. Next was the long wait to get a car. I must have picked the wrong car rental agency.
Since we were heading to Phoenix on Monday, we spent the night in Henderson. After the breakfast buffet at the hotel, we were on our way. Las Vegas to Phoenix is nice easy drive, except for the lack of a restroom. Boy, was I glad when I spotted one!
Monday night we had supper with our friends, who have just moved to an apartment in a nice retirement community. Pleasant enough, it is not for me. I enjoy the individuality of our condo, but some could disagree about our living choice, too.
Next day our friends Bill and Sara took us to Scottsdale. We toured the old town area and ate at a busy local restaurant. On our way back to their new place, we stopped at their old home in a beautiful development. The facilities were outstanding, access to everything including a dog park.
Wednesday found us at Carefree, visiting a shopping area, lunching at a restaurant on a golf course. Enjoyed a memorable hamburger. Other than flies peppering the air, it was beautiful sitting on the patio. We had supper with Bill and Sara at a restaurant in Surprise.
After Pauline and I shared a meal, it was time to say our goodbyes. We promised not to let 17 more years pass until we meet again.
By Thursday morning, we were en route to Las Vegas to spend our last two vacation days.
