Dateline Dayton — I took last Thursday afternoon off to work on the bathroom remodel at our son Chris’s place. This enabled me to get the first coat of mud on the wall and fix two other spots in need of repair.

In the evening we attended our granddaughter’s soccer game. You would have thought winter had returned to Ohio. Bitterly cold and windy. Thankfully, I had two coats and a blanket. Pauline wore many layers. Madison’s team played a great game, and they won 10-0.

The next evening we joined my cash register buddy Howard and his wife Marilyn for supper.

Later we attended the second half our granddaughter Julia’s soccer game. She was hurt and unable to play. Her team lost, probably not because Julia didn’t get to play. Now that evening we merely wore jackets. We do live in Ohio. The weather can change every hour.

Saturday morning I went to the license bureau to get a new driver’s license, which I needed by May 4. I was pleasantly surprised. Lots of cars in the parking lot, but only three people were ahead of me. Most were in the Clerk of Courts office next door getting their auto registrations.

Returning home, I took Pauline out for breakfast and ran errands. We did purchase a floor lamp to put behind my favorite chair for when I have time to read the newspaper — if I start receiving a paper again.

In the afternoon, Pauline visited her brother, whose health is not good, and I went to work on Chris’s remodeling project.

Sunday we went to late Mass because we were attending the Dayton Dragons’ baseball game in the afternoon. We left directly from church. A wonderful game. The Dragons won. It was so chilly in the shade, where our seats are. When it’s hot, we appreciate the shade. We were dressed for the weather, though. We didn’t even use the blanket, which we always have with us.

I took my day off one day early and traveled with my friend John to a cash register collection in Lexington, KY. This 91-year-old gentleman, a retired NCR repairman, has 19 registers and lots of parts he wants to sell. Unfortunately, his prices are unrealistic. He is a good woodworker, and he showed us some of his creations. They were beautiful. Too bad they weren’t for sale.

Spent the evening spent at my son’s, sanding the drywall.

Happy Birthday

This evening we are celebrating our birthdays at Lacomedia Dinner Theater, enjoying the food and “South Pacific.”
