Average Day on Farragut Drive? I Don’t Think So

[Editor’s Note: Mr. Smith, a leader of Grace Lutheran Church, and Ms. Province, a resident of nearby Farragut Drive, have been strong voices for opposing sides in the historic dispute over where church members may park.]

Since I no longer am able to comment in Nadine Province’s Facebook page, I thought I would set the record straight in this newspaper.

This past Saturday, Nadine posted a video of an “average day” on Farragut Drive.

The video was taken during the hours of a fairly large funeral at Grace Lutheran Church. As you would expect, most of the legal parking spaces, on a city-owned street, were taken up by people who attended the funeral.

Based on my personal parking study, the “average” Saturday on Farragut probably has fewer than 10 cars parked on the street, half of which are cars owned by the residents of the street.

I guess we will all find out what the “average” parking situation is on Farragut Drive when the recently completed parking study is released to the public.

As I understand it, the study will be presented to the City Council on Monday, Sept. 12.

The study should be available to the public about two weeks before that.

For those of you who are interested, please pick up a copy and you can make up your own mind about whether or not the 10700 block of Farragut Drive has this horribly intrusive parking situation that residents have been ranting about for years.

I have no idea what the results of the parking study are.

But I am guessing it won’t support the overly restrictive parking the residents have enjoyed for more than 30 years…
