Dateline Dayton — Pauline and I attended the Kettering Civic Band’s Summertime, Sousa and Sundaes last Thursday at Polen Farm, just a couple blocks from where we live.
The entertaining program of nine musical arrangements only lasted an hour. That was good since the weather quickly tuned cool and windy. We were prepared. I keep a blanket in the car. It may have cooled off because the Centerville- Kettering Kiwanis Club generously was serving free ice cream sundaes. They were accepting donations. As a former Kiwanian, contributed.
The band’s next Polen Farm is a month away.
My Time
On Father’s Day, we started by attending church, and then we went to the Kettering Grill for breakfast. I was surprised. Busy, but there was no waiting. Everyone seated must have just arrived. It took so long for our food to arrive.
We stopped by home to walk our dog, and then we were off to the Learning Tree Farm, sharply at 12 noon.
My family did something so special for me. For Father’s Day, they planted a tree in my honor in front of the Education Center at the farm. I have been involved with the farm for over 30 years. A board member many years, I retired at the end of last year, after four years as president.
The building for the Education Center, on 15 acres, was acquired during my term as president. Credit, though, must go to David Fisher and his years of fundausung.
After touring the Education Center and visiting the farm, we went back home for a cookout. I really appreciate what my family did for me. I hope all fathers enjoyed a wonderful day.
This must have been our week for music. On Sunday evening we attended a program at the Stubbs Park Amphitheater, in Centerville, a little distance from our home, unlike Polen Farm.
The program consisted of Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers, whom I enjoy, accompanied by the Centerville and Dayton High School Alternative Strings Orchestras. Pauline and I have attended presentations by the Centerville Alternative Strings Orchestra in the past and they are always outstanding. This evening’s program was no exception.
Great way to end Father’s Day!
