Surf’s up.
Almost always for Scott Wyant.
As you plainly can deduce from the accompanying photo from 1977, a leading contender in the April 12 City Council election is surfing.
Mr. Wyant’s beloved pastime is, of course, a rarity among political candidates.
On Sunday afternoon, the tech entrepreneur will be all dressed up for the major fundraiser of his campaign, a 5:30 affair at The Culver Hotel.
Mr. Wyant and his wife are cooking up a tasty prize for one lucky household at the fundraiser. Scott and Leslie are spending part of this week cooking a lasagna dinner that will serve eight or 10 persons. The Wyants will deliver it to the victory home – and stay for dinner, if invited.
Mr. Wyant discovered the joys of surfing as a 23-year-old in 1974.
Happily and regularly, he has been tilting among the waves ever since.
“I love everything about surfing,” said the tall, blond Mr. Wyant, easily mistaken for Surfer Boy.
“There isn’t anything about it that isn’t great, the water, the sound, the sensation, the fact you are deriving energy from something else that is not you.”
Listen to this Wyant analogy:
“Surfing is like jumping out of a building and living.”
