Re “Silent Treatment Did Not Surprise Wyant”
Even though he was snubbed in a remarkable way, Scott Wyant has no regrets about participating in last week’s Culver City Democratic Club endorsement forum for the four Democratic candidates for the City Council.
“There is one thing I have learned over my life, finally,” he said.
“That is, I do not learn anything from people I agree with. I can’t. I already know what they are saying and agree with their words.
“I learn about myself and about the world from people with whom I disagree,” Mr. Wyant said.
“That is one of the reasons I am running or a seat on the City Council.”
The Democratic Club’s exaggerated rejection of Mr. Wyant may have been a record-setter even for a legitimately partisan group.
The three endorsed candidates – Thomas Small, 56 votes, Councilperson Meghan Sahli-Wells, 55 votes, Daniel Lee, 53 votes – all were politely applauded after each of their responses. Mr. Wyant’s mysterious/accidental 8 votes must have leaked through the cracks in the Rotunda Room at the Vets Auditorium.
Even though Mr. Wyant’s anwers/observations were not strongly distinct from his colleagues’, and even though he was at least as well informed as any of the other three, his treatment, say critics, is a blot on the reputation of the Democratic Club.
