The curtains on Scott Wyant’s run for the City Council officially will not be parted until Sunday, but the widely known technology entrepreneur is not waiting.

When Mr. Wyant meets his crowd of supporters for the first time – at the home of Jim and Diana Solomon, 11020 Lindblade Ave., Sunday afternoon at 2 – he intends to mollify even the grayest skeptics with a comprehensive explanation about why he is competing.

Running to save the city from the next disaster may be a fine for motivation for some contenders. Not Mr. Wyant. He runs deeper.

“The first question people always ask me, when I tell them I am running for City Council,” said Mr. Wyant, “is ‘why?’

“Things don’t just happen by accident in this city,” said the Planning Commissioner. “The police don’t just have facilities by accident. Teachers don’t just teach by accident.

“People are working all of the time to make Culver City as great as it is. A lot of them are behind the scenes. A lot of them are public employees. A lot of them are volunteers. A lot of them are what we call public servants, people who in Culver City are not professional politicians.

“Andy Weissman (the vice mayor) is a great example of somebody who has been doing this kind of work for many years.”
