Vice Mayor Andy Weissman intensely was studying his desk calendar.
“Look at this,” he said. “I have a calendar note for City Council meetings on the second and fourth Mondays of every month, going on in perpetuity,” he remarked.
“That must have meant I was not focusing on term limits,” said the Council member who will be term limited in April, ending a two-century career in City Hall.
“I can eliminate that note,” Mr. Weissman said evenly.
What does the venerable leader think of term limits?
“I never think about term limits – unless something comes up,” Mr. Weissman said. “If there is an issue during the day that relates to the city, one thought that goes through my head is:
“ ‘Will (or can) this be resolved before I leave?’
“Other than those issues, I don’t really give it much thought.”
Question: Mr. Weissman, you do hate to leave, right?
He paused.
Only then did he identify the most painful slice about leaving.
“I certainly am going to miss not being on the inside, dealing with issues that concern Culver City,” Mr. Weissman said.
“Being outside the tent is much different from being inside the tent.”
