What’s Rush on Parcel B?

Happy birthday.

By Vice Mayor Andy Weissman’s calculations, this is at least the 21st spring since the parking lot that separates the Culver Hotel and Trader Joe’s was cleared to make room for a major development.

Still not quite started.

Businesses on the property were vanquished. Some relocated. Some were eviscerated.

At a now forgotten juncture, the land was named Parcel B. So far, though, it has been a childless marriage between Parcel B and City Hall.

The land lies barren.

It has been reported that the launching documents between the developer, Combined Properties, and Culver Studios, have been signed and completed.

The supposed next step is to break ground – for the third or fourth time.

Something like an 18-month pregnancy?

A year ago, Mr. Weissman was hoping/praying that construction of the already almost legendary Parcel B could start before the end of 2015.

His only certitude this afternoon is that construction will not begin before he is termed out of office after the April 12 election.
