During this severe drought, the West Basin Municipal Water District Board of Directors will host a town hall meeting on Saturday morning, Aug. 15, to discuss the drought and how local water agencies can assist residents in saving water.

The meeting will be held at the old racetrack, Hollywood Park, Inglewood.

Community members from West Basin’s service area are invited to learn about the latest drought updates and water-saving tips that will help meet Gov. Brown’s call for a statewide 25 percent reduction in water use.

As a wholesale water agency serving a population of nearly one million residents in 17 cities and unincorporated areas along the coastal corridor from Palos Verdes to Malibu, West Basin says it is working to meet the Mr. Brown’s water reduction goals.

Throughout its service area, West Basin residents are being asked to cut water use from 12 percent to as high as 36 percent.

The town hall will address how to meet these goals and set the stage for a more water-efficient future.

“The town hall is an opportunity for our local residents and businesses to learn how mandated water restrictions are impacting their communities,” said Gloria Gray, West Basin board president.  “We will discuss how everyone can work together to save more water.

“We must each do our part to help ensure a more reliable water future.”

To kick off the event, Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts Jr. will deliver the opening talk.  Additionally, representatives from Golden State Water Co., California Water Service Co., the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, and West Basin water experts, will provide an update on statewide and local water supplies, free water conservation programs and rebates, and to answer questions.

The event will be in Hollywood Park’s Breeders’ Cup Room. A continental breakfast will be served. Community members are encouraged to RSVP by next Friday at www.westbasin.org/townhall.
