[Editor’s Note: Dr. Hoult, a candidate for the role of being the first poet laureate of Culver City, has researched procedures for making the selection.]
It became evident in a meeting I had yesterday morning with Thomas Aujero Small, a member of the Cultural Affairs Commission who is on the AdHoc Committee, that we need to move quickly to come up with a procedure for appointing a poet laureate for Culver City
His idea is to have me continue to work with the AdHoc Committee as the person responsible for seeing that all the pieces are in place as a poet laureate is officially named in time for the Centennial.
This newspaper dubbed me the “Poetess Laureate” of Culver City years ago, but perhaps my most important role is that of the facilitator for establishing the position of Poet Laureate in order to ensure that it will continue in future years.
Rhyming
Since today is Bastille Day/ “le quatorze Juillet,” here is “A Votre Sante.”
I also have started a poetry group at the Senior Center – Word Painting with Poetry. We have had two sessions and a dozen students.
Here is my poem:
A Votre Sante…!
By Janet Hoult
While teaching at the Faculte
des Lettres a l’Universite
In the lovely cite of Grenoble
I often travelled far and wide
Throughout the lovely countryside
Tasting samples of the French vignoble
Lessons learned from sommeliers
I’d met in Bordeaux one day
Ensured that I could sample with no trouble
And tell the difference between wines
Reds and whites are all just fine
But the one I like the best has bubbles…!
