Mr. Tiggs

Even though you are shivering this morning, this is a hot spell for Marcus Tiggs in his campaign to win a City Council seat.

Tonight Mr. Tiggs will host a major fundraiser at the Backstage Bar and Grill, 5:30 to 7:30.

A day ago, he delivered knowledgeably at the Chamber of Commerce’s showcasing of all seven candidates for the first time.

Before Mr. Tiggs and his fellow office-seekers answered seven questions posed by Chamber Board Chair Collette Moore, he came clean about how he really feels about campaigning.

“It’s tough,” he said. “It’s hard work. My feet are killing me.

“We are just busting our butts.

“We are walking a lot.”

There are, however, sun rays streaming through the Tiggs campaign.

“I really like meeting the people,” he said, “walking around the neighborhoods, being on the ground, finding out what their issues are.”

Mr. Tiggs has identified a common theme:

“Overall,” he said, “everyone is happy, which is kind of good,” and he laughed heartily.

Does a state of serenity complicate campaigning?

“It does and it doesn’t,” Mr. Tiggs said. “We have to be careful about the future. We have to be cognizant of what is going on in the future and not wait until the last minute.”

The differences between his first run for office in 2002 and today:

“I have a team. I am older, hopefully wiser and more organized, and I have been active in the city (ex-Planning Commissioner and longtime Fiesta La Ballona committee member).”
