Hello everyone,
For more than 10 years, Falcons Youth and Family Services has looked for innovative ways to effectively serve the needs of youth in South Los Angeles.
As the holidays approach, organizations will answer the call to help those in need. I want to share with you what the Falcons, in partnership with the Water Buffalo Club (www.waterbuffaloclub.com), will be doing for homeless families on Thanksgiving Day.
The Water Buffalo Club is a charitable organization dedicated to fostering the well-being of the underserved.
Our mission is to begin a new Thanksgiving tradition for homeless families living in shelters.
In addition to the holiday meal baskets, we are hosting a special dinner for homeless families (80 people). We plan to transform the multi-purpose room of our church, New Pleasant Hill M.B.C., 9537 S. Vermont Ave., Los Angeles 90003, into a five-star restaurant, complete with a maitre d’, waiters and live music.
The day will begin with our guests of honor being transported via passenger vans to enjoy a matinee movie.
Afterward, all guests will return to the church for what they think will be a normal Thanksgiving meal. As a special surprise, each guest will be announced and escorted into the dining hall to bring to life that five-star restaurant experience.
Needless to say we are excited.
Here is a link to a Thanksgiving event, which is the inspiration for our venture. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-8ee7qyfF0
Here is a recent essay about one of our programs, written by Sandy Banks, Los Angeles Times columnist. http://www.latimes.com/local/california/la-me-banks-watts-falcons-20150905-column.html
Please note that everything is covered for the event. This is not a request for donation. I just want to share what the Falcons and the Water Buffalo Club are doing for families in South Los Angeles.
