STEM Festival Starts at West

West Los Angeles College is hosting its first STEMStarts Festival today and tomorrow.

The free festival is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 both days.

STEMStarts is an affiliate event of the USA Science & Engineering Festival in Washington D.C.  Its mission is to ignite the interest and imaginations of youths in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

Visitors will experience hands-on interactive exhibits in a collegiate atmosphere and interact with professionals in STEM related fields.

Partners in the festival are Energy Partners Fund, EnCorps and the U.S. Science and Engineering Festival. Exhibitors include the California Science Center, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Tesla, Space X, 3D Film Festival, Aerospace Corporation, Battle Bots, Enagic USA, Institute for Field Research,  Solar City, Tomorrow’s Aeronautical Museum and more.

Several of West’s academic divisions will also be presenters including: aviation technology, Allied Health, dental hygiene, computer science, motion picture television production, math and science. www.WLAC.edu/Events.

In coming days, the college will host free evening information sessions on its pharmacy technician, ABA-approved paralegal, and medical assistant programs. These are among the fastest growing occupations in California. The dates are next Wednesday, next Thursday and Sunday, Dec. 6. www.WLAC.edu/Events.
