On Saturday from 10 o’clock until 2, West Los Angeles College’s Career Studies division, in conjunction with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, is hosting a free Income Tax Preparation and Family Resources Day for individuals from households earning $54,000 or less.
West offers university transfer and career training programs.
While the event is free, an appointment is recommended. Call 866.910.9559 or sign up online at www.boe.ca.gov/vita.
Additionally, participants need to bring certain documents and identification. www.boe.ca.gov/horton/vita/#Bring.
A new California earned income tax credit is available to eligible California residents.
It is a cash-back tax credit that puts money back into the pockets of working families and individuals.
According to www.caleitc4me.org/know-it/, families living paycheck to paycheck will have more funds available to them.
Studies show that children in households that receive the tax credit do better in school. They are more likely to attend college and earn more.
On Saturday, April 16, from 8:30 to 12:30, p.m., West will host a free information session for its fulltime program designed for busy working adults, Accelerated College Transfer.
This program allows working adults to complete the courses needed to transfer to a university in just two years.
Students attend one or two nights per week or on the weekends and online. Most classes are just eight weeks.
