This was the afternoon Mayor Mehaul O’Leary was going to fly home from the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Washington and talk about yesterday’s memorable White House visit.
Instead, he is relaxing in his hotel room, 2500 miles from home.
The feared massive snowstorm has begun slamming the East Coast. At a glance, 5000 flights have been canceled, including everything out of the nation’s Capitol.
“The snow is just starting,” Mr. O’Leary said. “I didn’t even get to the airport. I just turned around and came back here.
“If I had kept going, I would have been stuck at the airport. Once you are there, you can’t get out.
“I am not going to sit in the airport for two days.”
Mr. O’Leary said his second visit to the White House was a “fabulous” success.
Unlike four years ago when the battery on his cell phone suffered a heart attack, the mayor charged his phone and nailed every photo op he wanted.
