Mr. Small

It has been written that Thomas Small may be the most fascinating/unique/mysterious  candidate among the army of contenders in the April 12 City Council election.

When he makes his formal community debut on Sunday afternoon at his official campaign launch, observers will have a better idea of Mr. Small’s political capabilities and potential.

Unlike incumbent Meghan Sahli-Wells, Scott Wyant, Marcus Tiggs and Goran Eriksson – recognizable hometown personalities – Mr. Small owns an impressively different C.V., and a much more amorphous community profile even though he and his family have lived here for 10 years.

A fine arts devotee, Mr. Small was educated in Paris, among other campuses, and down to today, he occasionally works abroad.

The architecture writer – which is like saying Jennifer Lopez is a regurgitator of lines – will hold court from 2 o’clock to 5 on Sunday at the home of his neighbors on Carson Street in the Hayden Tract, David and Diana Hauptman. The Hauptmans live and host at 8920.

A decade and a half after leaving office, Mr. Hauptman, an elder statesman these days, can give Mr. Small pointers on the role of City Councilman. He served at the end of the last century and the beginning of the present one, a vastly different era for City Hall.
