Re “Meghan Defends ‘My Community’ in Furor Over Muslims

It was inevitable that City Councilperson Meghan Sahli-Wells would address the central liberal issue of guns in her stern criticism of a recent essay that identified contemporary barbaric crimes by radical Muslims.

“You seem to imply we should all be packing guns because of Muslims,” Ms. Sahli-Wells said.

She was told that in Israel, rabbis have been encouraging Jews to carry sidearms into the synagogue on Shabbat because of the ongoing rampage of stabbings by Palestinian terrorists.

“Is that really what you want for Culver City?” she asked.

Given the events of San Bernardino 27 days ago, we need to be alert, prepared, I said. Guns, I repeated, are not the problem. Evil people are.

“Guns are a huge debate,” Ms. Sahli-Wells said. “Obviously, I completely disagree with you.

“Your point of view invites hatred.”

I countered that the entirety of the hatred syndrome is driven by Muslim killers and their enablers.

“Muslims are the No. 1 targets in most terrorist incidents in their own countries,” she said.

“Muslims are victims here, too.

“It is not the religion that is promoting these acts of terrorism.”

Ms. Sahli-Wells, that is minimally accurate. The Muslim murderers encircling the globe do not hide their motivation – they are prehistorically slaughtering non-believers (and believers) in the name of Allah, in the name of Islam.
