More than a month has passed since Anne Burke was elected to the School Board.

Finally, tomorrow evening at 7 in the School District headquarters on Irving Place, she and fellow election winner Dr. Kelly Kent – the No. 1 votegetter — will be sworn in at the first School Board meeting since October.

“I am so ready,” the perky Ms. Burke said Sunday afternoon at City Council candidate Goran Eriksson’s coming-out party.

Heart-pumping enthusiasm aside though, she is planning a low-key inaugural.

Is she nervous?

“I am not,” Ms. Burke said.

She is preparing to conduct herself the way all veterans believe that freshmen members should.

“I am ready not to say too much,” she said. “I am ready to listen.

“I am ready to be grateful and say ‘thank you.’

“Other than that, I am ready to get into the actual business of the School Board,” Ms. Burke said, “to watch and learn.”

Will Ms. Burke make a philosophical statement or talk about her motivations for running?

Not likely. “The campaign is over,” she said. “We just returned from the annual education conference of the California School Board Assn. It was super-inspirational. If  anything, I might say something inspirational about supporting public education.”
