For Saturday morning’s rain-barrel distribution, the West Basin Municipal Water District has established eight guidelines:
- Must reside in West Basin’s service area(www.westbasin.org/maps)
- Minimum of up to two per household, depending on supply
- The rain barrel must be mounted in a way that allows the barrel to receive water unimpeded from a rain gutter
- Should not block or obstruct walkways, pathways
- Should be elevated six inches off the ground, on a solid foundation
- Should be strapped to your home for safety – the height of the barrel is two times greater than the width
- Homes must have rain gutters and downspouts
- Rain barrels must be installed within 30 days. They may be inspected
Purchasers must be pre-registered at one of two places – www.sbesc.com or by telephoning the South Bay Environmental Services Center at 310.371.4633.
Distribution on Saturday will be from 8 to 12 noon at the Edward C. Little Water Recycling Facility, 1935 S. Hughes Way, El Segundo.
