Tracy Pumilia, former principal of El Marino Language School, today has been the School District’s new Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.
She succeeds Dr. Kati Krumpe, who recently returned to the South Bay as chief academic officer in the Torrance Unified School District.
Ms. Pumilia brings 26 years of service as a bilingual educator, coordinator, elementary principal. Most recently, she was director of Curriculum and Instruction.
During her nine years as principal of El Marino Language School, Ms. Pumilia helped to transition the school from a foreign immersion to a dual language immersion model.
She also secured $2.4 million in federal grant aid to support, both, the Spanish and Japanese Immersion Programs.
Regarded as a natural collaborator and team player, Ms. Pumilia believes in prioritizing close relationships with staff and strong partnerships with parent and community advocacy groups.
She says this will lead to unlimited opportunities for students — rich cultural experiences, solid social-emotional supports, and significant academic gains.
Ms. Pumilia earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism from Northwestern and her master’s in administration from Pepperdine.
Along with enjoying traveling, cooking, and spending their weekends on the soccer sidelines, Ms. Pumilia and her husband of 22 years are Culver City residents.
They have three children who are past, present, and future Culver City High School students.
